I have over 20 years experience within the motor trade.
I left school to begin an apprenticeship at Scott of Bellshill, one of the last large coachbuilders in the Lanarkshire area. I built mobile shops, ice cream vans, mini buses, coaches and crew cabs. This is where I learnt the finishing skills and attention to detail that are still a huge part of my job today. During my apprenticeship I attended college in Edinburgh, attaining over 40 Scotvec Qualifications and receiving two awards from the VBRA, Best student in year group (second Year) & Best Student overall, from all four years of the course group.
Before moving to Blantyre Coachworks I spent time in various other workshops and worked as far afield as Donald Heggies in Cupar, Fife expanding my skills and knowledge. With Blantyre Coachworks I experienced the larger side of bodybuilding, working on 45' trailers. During this time I obtained the necessary skills to work within the refridgerated transport area, building & repairing everything from small panel vans up to the full semi trailer. During my four years at Blantrye we were the Scottish agents for Schmitz Cargobull, the leading refridgeration specialists at the time.
I left Blantyre Coachworks for Boalloy Industries a market leader and innovator in curtainside trailers. I worked for two & a half years in their repair shop in Cumbernauld before being asked to move to the new build plant at Bellshill, where I stayed for a further two years before moving to Stewarts of Wishaw, which was a short stay en route to Fleming & Taylor.
At Fleming & Taylor I was responsible for many of the modern workshop tasks, such as ply-lining, building of cone laying vehicles, coachbuit crew cabs, steel tipping bodies, (both rear & 3 way tip), electrical installations & general repair work. I was employed both in the Airdrie workshop & also at the new premises in Motherwell. After five years here I left to begin employment at GNC Bodybuilders, doing much of the same type of work that I had carried out at Fleming & Taylors alongwith disability conversions to private vehicles, taxi's and buses.
Over the years I have gained a wealth of knowledge of the motor trade, commercial and private and built a reputation of good workmanship. As you can see I have worked in a lot of different areas within coachbuilding so I am able to meet most requirements. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any requirements that you may have.
